ABSTRACT: Intercultural universities focus on the understanding and respect of diverse cultures by promoting diversity as an asset in education. These institutions strive to ensure equal access to education for all individuals, including marginalized and Indigenous populations. Furthermore, intercultural universities recognize the intrinsic relationship between culture and education and promote approaches that integrate local knowledge into the curriculum. They encourage dialogue and mutual understanding among different cultures and perspectives, contributing to social cohesion and conflict resolution. In addition to cultural equity, these institutions address gender-related issues and promote equality between women and men. Intercultural universities are often rooted in local communities and participate in development projects that benefit them. They promote research that values and respects local knowledge, thereby enriching understanding and preserving cultural heritage. It is concluded that the inclusion of diverse cultural perspectives and the promotion of diversity enrich both education and society as a whole. Intercultural universities also promote a sustainable development approach that respects the environment and local cultures. They encourage the participation of students, communities, and Indigenous groups in educational decision-making processes.
