ABSTRACT: This discussion aims to raise awareness of those who, as part of Costa Rican society, are experiencing situations of vulnerability. Through this presentation, we seek to establish a clear distinction between vulnerability imposed by external factors to the individual and which are generated by situations that the individual's experiences throughout their lives. Throughout the discussion, we address the historical exposure of self-imposed vulnerability toward Afro-Costa Ricans, a vulnerability that manifests itself in various ways, such as access to employment and educational opportunities, inclusion, and human rights. Through a reflective approach, the speaker seeks to raise awareness about the inherent equality of all human beings, emphasizing that we all have the same capabilities and should be guaranteed the same opportunities to succeed. Race should not be a differentiating factor that prevents any human being from accessing the same opportunities as another.
