ABSTRACT: Evidence comes from research and studies that examine how students learn to read and write effectively. These studies often identify strategies and approaches that have proven successful in improving students’ reading and writing skills. Evidence alone is not enough; it must be translated into effective teaching practices. Teachers, curriculum designers, and educational decision-makers use this evidence to develop strategies and teaching methods based on what research has shown to be effective. The teaching of reading and writing has evolved as more evidence has accumulated regarding how these skills are acquired. This has led to changes in the way these skills are taught, shifting from more traditional approaches to practices centered on students and the deep comprehension of texts. By grounding the teaching of reading and writing in research-backed evidence, students can benefit from more effective pedagogical approaches. This may lead to greater reading comprehension, stronger writing skills, and ultimately greater academic success.
