ABSTRACT: Within the framework of the Day of the Black Person and Afro-Costa Rican Culture, reflection on intercultural communication gains significant relevance when considering the need to promote understanding and recognition of cultural diversity in Costa Rica. Intercultural communication emerges as an essential tool for building bridges of understanding among different ethnic groups and for overcoming barriers that may arise due to a lack of knowledge and exposure to diverse cultural realities. Awareness-raising stands as one of the fundamental pillars of intercultural communication. This commemorative day provides an opportunity to foster greater awareness of the experiences, histories, and struggles of Afro-descendant communities. Empathy and openness to understanding the perspectives and challenges faced by these groups contribute to strengthening bonds of respect and solidarity. Dialogue and the exchange of knowledge emerge as essential practices in this reflection. The creation of spaces for conversation and interaction allows for the sharing of traditions, values, and ways of life characteristic of Afro-Costa Rican communities. This interaction facilitates the dismantling of stereotypes and broadens cultural horizons, thereby enriching the perspectives of those who engage in such exchanges.
