ABSTRACT: Academic performance in university students’ education is a complex topic that encompasses a series of interrelated factors. These factors can be divided into several key categories that influence student achievement. In the category of academic factors, previous academic background plays an important role. Grades obtained in secondary education are often correlated with success in university. In addition, dedication to studying and the choice of effective methods for learning and organizing are crucial elements that impact performance. Personal factors also play a significant role. Intrinsic motivation, meaning passion and interest in the chosen field of study, is a major driving force. Physical and emotional health and well-being affect a student’s ability to concentrate and perform at their best. Likewise, self-regulation skills, such as time management and resistance to distractions, are essential. Social factors cannot be overlooked. Support from family, friends, and the study environment influences the balance between social and academic life, which in turn impacts performance. The educational institution also plays a fundamental role. The quality of education offered, the resources available (such as libraries and laboratories), and assessment and grading policies are institutional factors that may affect student performance. Furthermore, economic factors play a crucial role. Access to financial resources to cover education costs and maintain student well-being can reduce financial stress, whereas part-time employment may pose a challenge for efficient time management. Scholarships and financial aid can be key facilitators for accessing higher education. Cultural and ethnic factors are also relevant. Cultural diversity in the university environment can bring unique challenges and opportunities. Cultural beliefs about the value of education may influence engagement and academic achievement. Additionally, discrimination and prejudice may represent obstacles for some students.
