ABSTRACT: The objectives of the La Fenêtre teaching method are to achieve a better attitude towards French, improve performance in this subject and allow the use of time and space in the classroom and greater interaction between students and teacher. Before publishing the text definitively , the controlled investigations carried out a study to observe the fulfillment of these problems and their theoretical principles: learning French through reading activities, self-study and an approach to French civilization. The designed instrument was in the form of bipolar semantic differential scales applied in pre-test and post-test to measure students' attitude towards French. The dimensions included in the scales refer to an evaluation ("pleasant-unpleasant"), power ("boring-entertaining") and activity ("useful-useless"). The studied population was 703 7th grade students and once teachers of the same level. Each teacher had his load in two groups: one of experimentation (that used the method La Fenêtre) and another control (that used another method). The pre-exam results show that in all groups the attitude towards French is positive in this year's students. The experimental groups evaluated French control more positively than the groups, but both considered their teaching to be useful, necessary and enjoyable. The post-examination results show that the attitude is also positive at the end of the academic year; however, the results are lower than those of the pre-test in both groups. The authors recommend the use of the new method in Basic General Education.
