ABSTRACT: This study had as a general objective to strengthen the beliefs about vocational self-efficacy of the country's adolescent population through the contribution of the discipline of Orientation. In accordance with the conceptual framework used in this research, it was defined that the people participating in this stage of the study would be tenth and eleventh grade students of Diversified Education, initially 10 students (5 women and 5 men), aged between 15 and 18 years attending the same educational institution. It was proposed as personal conditions for their choice as participants the following characteristics: Young people with fluent written and oral expression capability in keeping with their age. Young people who have demonstrated clarity at this point about their life project. Young people who live in a family environment regardless of how its comprised. Young people who have attended the same educational institution for at least the past 3 years. The Emma Gamboa Laboratory School was contacted; the project was presented to the Vice-principal and two counselors, and they were asked to recommend the students that could participate if they met with the conditions established for their selection. Subsequently, a meeting was held with the group of students proposed and the project was explained to them; they were given a guide of biographical account; the dates and forms of communication were agreed; and the roster with names and information was created. Even though permanent monitoring was given through email, in the end 5 biographical accounts were received which upon revision by the researcher complied with the necessary requirements to draw on the information. As final considerations, the following are mentioned: This research was planned by phases which lasts one year each phase. During the first phase, a qualitative research approach was taken; in the second a quantitative approach was followed, which allowed the researcher to view the objective of the study from different perspectives that allowed for a better understanding of it. It is very important no to favor specific research approaches. Educational research is multi-faceted, all equally valid, thus it is vital to experiment with this diversity in order to contribute in a broader way with the comprehension of the educational phenomena. As a product of the researcher's immersion in the topic of Vocational Guidance through this research, it has been noted the importance of focusing within the same area on other relevant topics for the theoretical development of this discipline in the University of Costa Rica. As a product of this interest, at the moment, the researcher is involved, together with 5 additional teachers from the School of Orientation and Special Education, in the creation of a research community on Vocational Guidance. It has been considered that the University of Costa Rica has the potential to become a conceptual referent in this field for Latin America in light of its long experience in the training of these professionals both initially and continuous. It is therefore necessary to strengthen research in this field.
