ABSTRACT: This book is the product of two investigations from two registered projects carried out by Dr. Teresita Cordero during the period 2006-2011: the first in the Women's Studies Research Center (CIEM for its acronym in Spanish), and the second in the Research Institute in Education (INIE). The study began with an analysis of the creation the University of Costa Rica focusing first on the political and social movements that occurred at the beginning of the 20th Century, and the participation of women involved with Unions in these movements. Subsequently, with the opening of the Institution, there are various options for professional training as well as for rich social and cultural spaces to nurture the professional development of young men and women of the time. There are also acts of discrimination that happen under ideas of stereotypes and hegemonic ideology, and patriarchal mandates which allows for the comprehension of situations lived by women which in turn contrast with an account of their wish for professional growth and their scientific accomplishments.
