ABSTRACT: This report reflects the process followed by the researcher through which information was obtained great relevance for the university and will allow to continue with a new research proposal that modify the Graduate Survey form according to the current needs of the University of Costa Rica. This project was developed in two stages, the first was carried out by Alicia Gurdián, Alicia Vargas and Olga Marta Coto for the period 1980-1990 based on the survey of graduates of the University of Costa Rica; The second stage begins with the three researchers mentioned above, but for different reasons they had to withdraw from the project. The objectives were to generate descriptive statistics (measures of position, variability and graphics) for the duration times for baccalaureate and licensure for each of the schools. This information was processed with the SPSS and Excel program; First there was a long and arduous task of debugging the database, a rather complex and problematic task. Two intertwined methodological approaches were used: the descriptive and the interpretive, within a macro-sociological perspective. The following instruments were used for the collection of information: Data obtained from the "Survey of new graduates"; Request to the academic units of information analysis; Meeting with the advisory councils of the different Faculties of the University of Costa Rica to present the results obtained and to know their opinions on the matter. The most important data of the 31 academic units that answered the survey are listed. The attitude of the schools to the document was varied, from the positive and favorable to the non-response. As final considerations, the author offers a list of aspects necessary to reflect and take the necessary corrective measures in case they are presented in the academic unit or in the curriculum and that affect, among other things, the duration to obtain the title. . It offers a list of recommendations to assess. The annexes include the instruments used during the research, as well as tables and graphs with data from the academic units.
