Experiencia de la marginalidad de las mujeres trabajadoras sexuales activas o no, de la zona roja de Limón: un estudio de casos construido a partir de sus historias de vida

Abstract

Es un proyecto de investigación que ofrece un acercamiento a las condiciones de vida de mujeres que se dedican o dedicaron al trabajo sexual en la zona roja de Limón. Tiene como propósito enriquecer el conocimiento científico sobre el tema, colaborar con la desmitificación y la crítica de prejuicios, mediante la descripción de las características socioculturales percibidas y narradas por las mujeres. El enfoque de esta investigación es cualitativo y con énfasis en un marco fenomenológico, dado que se centra en el estudio de los acontecimientos vividos por las personas participantes al tiempo que se interesa por descubrir la visión propia de la realidad construida y actuada a través de sus creencias, concepciones y representaciones. Lo anterior se obtiene como resultado de la escritura de la historia de vida y su interpretación en el conjunto de relaciones descritas por su autora a partir del contexto histórico en el que desarrollaron su práctica profesional y su proyección actual. Asimismo se trata de un estudio de casos, porque solamente se realizó con tres mujeres trabajadoras sexuales activas o no, de la zona roja de Limón que aceptaron voluntariamente narrar situaciones propias de su historia de vida. Tanto la sistematización previa sobre las condiciones de vida de las mujeres limonenses, como el diagnóstico realizado a la población meta, permitieron reconocer la marginalidad y vulnerabilidad de las mujeres trabajadoras sexuales. Asimismo se nos presenta un material valioso para profundizar en las historias de vida. En general las respuestas de las mujeres y las historias de vida reflejan lo que la literatura ha demostrado sobre el tema, a lo cual se une la experiencia de la investigadora en relación con esta población, por lo que estas fuentes han confirmado aspectos que están a la base de la estructura de marginalidad y vulnerabilidad de este grupo de mujeres, a los cuales todas las mujeres estamos expuestas directa o indirectamente, algunos de esos aspectos son los siguientes:

Inestabilidad familiar económica y afectiva desde la infancia hasta su adultez. Inicio de la experiencia del trabajo sexual como menores de edad, y, con tendencia a prolongar su permanencia. Baja escolaridad. Maternidad prematura y poca oportunidad para la manutención propia y de su descendencia. Entre más joven sea la mujer, tiene oportunidad de percibir mejores ingresos, el cual disminuye con el tiempo y se agudiza si hay consumo de drogas que deteriore la integridad física y psicológica. Conocimiento de algunas instituciones públicas que pueden mejorar las condiciones de vida de las mujeres, pero con limitaciones para su acceso. Temor a ser identificada públicamente como trabajadora sexual, por la estigmatización social.

ABSTRACT: It is a research project that offers an approach to the living conditions of women who are currently or were sex workers in the red-light district in Limón. The purpose is to increase the scientific knowledge on the topic, collaborate with demystification and criticism of prejudices through the description of socio-cultural characteristics perceived or narrated by the women. The focus of the research is quantitative and with an emphasis on a phenomenological framework as it focuses on the study of the life experiences of the participants at the time there is interest in discovering their views of the reality which was built and constructed through their beliefs, conceptions and representations. The former is obtained as a result of the writing of their life stories and its interpretation in the set of relations described by its author based on the historical context in which they developed their professional practice and the their current projection. In addition, this project deals with a study of each case since it was only conducted with three female sex workers, active or not, of the red-light district in Limón who voluntarily agreed to narrate situations of their lives. Both the previous systematization on the living conditions of women from Limón, as well as the diagnosis made of the target population, allowed to recognize the marginalization and vulnerability of female sex workers. Also, we are presented with valuable material to delve into the life stories. In general, the responses of the women and their life stories reflect what the literature has shown on the topic which links the researcher's experience with the population, which is why these sources have confirmed aspects that are at the basis of the structure of marginality and vulnerability of this group of women to which all women are exposed to directly or indirectly. Some of those aspects are the following:

• Family, economic and emotional instability from childhood to adulthood. • Beginning of the sex work experience as minors and with a tendency to do this in the long-term. • Low level of education. • Early maternity and little opportunity to support themselves and their offspring. • The younger the woman, the higher probability of she has to have a higher income which decreases with the time and exacerbated if there is drug consumption that impairs the physical and psychological integrity. • Knowledge of some public institutions that can improve the living conditions of women, but with limitations to their access. • Fear of being identified publicly as a sex worker due to the social stigmatization.
