ABSTRACT: The general objective of the research was: to analyze the personal resources that each high school teacher has in order to encourage students' participation in the educational process. The involvement refers to the degree in which the students participate in the institution's academic and non-academic activities, and value and identify with the educational process. It includes the behavioral, emotional and cognitive dimensions from which three types are described: behavioral involvement, emotional involvement, and cognitive involvement. Among these three types of involvement mentioned, there is a dynamic interrelationship and some overlap. In fact, the involvement is associated with motivation and permanence in school which contributes to the decrease in the early dropping out of the educational system; however, the degree of involvement relates to the teachers' involvement, which is why its importance has been acknowledged at the time of its promotion. In order to identify the resources Costa Rican educators used for this purpose, a qualitative study was designed which was carried out in day and night public high schools. The information was collected through semi-structured interviews and observations with eleven teachers. Participants were found to have a high degree of satisfaction with having chosen the teaching profession, which together with initial training and subsequent professional development, it has enabled them to be clear about the elements that underpin their daily work. In addition, it was confirmed that they are part of this permanent self-evaluation process of the effectiveness in achieving the goals that teachers set out for themselves; all of these are considered the teaching resources to encourage student's involvement in the educational process. Finally, additionally teachers also recognize that they have some training needs in order to optimize their responses to the demands of working with high school students.
