T: This qualitative research aimed to analyze the recreational activities of a group of women and their families in four communities in social vulnerability, using the Photovoice technique, in order to inform the local authorities of the request for actions that favor communal recreation. The study was carried out in the towns of Los Cuadros in Purral de Goicoechea, Dos Cercas in Damas de Desamparados, Tirrases de Curridabat and Alajuelita (San Felipe, Concepción and Alajuelita Centro); one community per semester. Between four and eight women from the four communities photographed their surroundings and the conditions for recreation. They provided the photos and a narrative of the importance of each photo. As a group, they analyzed all the images and narratives and identified themes, which they named. Based on the photographs collected, the results showed that, among the four communities, twelve themes corresponded to factors that favored recreation, thirteen to factors or barriers that made it difficult and nine to the types of recreational activities that were enjoyed in those localities. The results were presented to the Mayor's Office of each of the first three cantons and to the Alajuelita Municipal Council. Various actions were recommended to local authorities and government institutions to improve the conditions of the communities. In the four communities, the three objectives of the research, its goals and indicators were fully achieved. People assigned in each district will follow up on the requests made. The results of the four communities were also compared and five barriers were obtained that affected the nine types of recreational activities they carried out and four factors that favored them. At the end of the research, the use of this technique is recommended in other communities and with other populations, including men, to learn about the recreation they have access to and their opinion in this regard, and also to work with already formed local groups that they have common goals, as they are more organized.en
