T: The objective of the project was to investigate the analysis theories and the reading comprehension component pervasive in the Spanish curricula and the Third Cycle of General Basic Education in the 2005-2011 period. To develop this qualitative type research, the process began with the preparation of the same, which consisted of collecting data of bibliographical type. The data also referenced to both the literature component of the Spanish course programs as well as the exhaustive compilation of information on the regarding the theories which are the basis of the programs. The objectives and the contents of the course programs that refer to literature are then identified. As a third step of the research, which consists in analyzing the information, the objectives and contents are related to the literary theories. As a next step, the relationship evident in the textbooks is analyzed; they are contrasted to the objectives and contents of the curriculum in order to then assess if they relate to the type of analysis and if they answer to the concept of literary theories which are the basis of each one. This information is aimed for both acting Spanish teacher as well as people training to be Spanish teachers. It is also intended for authorities in charge of the curricula at the Ministry of Public Education. The purpose of this is that by knowing the possible contradictions implicit in the creation of the curricula, they can find a solution. With regard to the conclusions, as proposed in the general objective, it was possible to find: That the literary textbooks are read, understood and analyzed from three different theoretical principles; namely formal structuralism, stylistics and social criticism. All of them appear in the course program at different times when they are referenced. Thus, it is possible to find that the reading objectives of literary text fundamentally stem from the social criticism theory. While the contents developed from reading different literary texts that are based on the formal structuralism theory for narrative and stylistics for lyrical contents. Each of these literary theories, developed in the 1960s, stem from different interpretations of the text. Therefore, the approach that each one proposes to read the literary text is based on different postulates. Whereas the starting point for stylistic is the conception of Saussure's linguistic sign, where the signifier and meaning produce meaning, for formal structuralism, it is the form of the literary text, its diverse structural components, which if read from its specificity but within the scope of the text, produces a reading possibility. And for social criticism, its the sociocultural context, the intertexts and the internal structure of the text that results in meaning.en
