T: In order to test an operational framework for community measurement of dropout and school repetition, the characteristics associated with these phenomena were studied in 1694 children between 6 and 12 years of age in the Puriscal region. The study is framed within the Sentinel Sites methodology (room per cluster associated with a risk approach) applied to the educational area. The results on repetition show that one in 10 children repeats the year (40% the first grade) and children in the dispersed rural area have a 60% higher risk of repeating the grade. A child in whose home there are 5 or more school-age children is 7 times more likely to miss the school year. Similarly, children whose caregivers or guardians are illiterate, under the age of 20, who lack additional educational material, Our teachers are aspiring or interim, with an academic performance of less than 70 on the first trimester math grade, or enrolled In schools with enrollment of more than 500 children, they are more likely to fail the school year. The main dropout results indicated that, of the 1,694 children investigated, 2.2% dropped out of school, and of these 45% did so in first grade. Children in rural areas have a four times higher risk of dropping out compared to children in urban areas. The factors related to dropout are: illiteracy of the caregiver, parenting by a tutor who is neither parent, the lack of additional teaching material, the absence of previous preschool education, an academic performance of less than 70 and the absence of a differentiated classroom at school. The importance of the study lies in the possible early prediction of the behavior of the school population and the interventions that can be designed to prevent repetition and dropout. The study also warns about the need to adapt the educational system to the socioeconomic conditions of rural communities.en
